Food colouring!
Well I've definitely jumped on the band wagon when it comes to Kool aid and food colouring dying. It's not quite as cheap as more commercial forms, but in a bachelor apartment on the 9th floor in the middle of February, it's about all I can handle. And besides! I only dye for my personal projects, not to sell, so it's more for fun that economic gain. You should see what I've been able to come up with.
The candy striped wool in one of the earlier posts is made with cherry and tropical punch koolaid and green food colouring.
Here are a couple more pictures of koolaid/food colouring projects:This is a shawl mom and I made for Grandma, the light purple comes from one package of Grape koolaid (mom did the knitting).
These socks were another co-project. They're energized singles of Blue-faced Leicester that I spun up for mom to knit. The first pair were so nice that we decided to try dying the second. Mom used cherry koolaid and green food colouring to get what looked to be a wonderful brown, when we dyed the wool, however, it turned into a purple mauve, but still quite nice. In the picture here, it actually looks more brown than it is.
So the joys of food colouring and Kool aid!
